Nectarine seedlings are deciduous trees originating in China. It was created by crossing of peach and plum so it has characteristics of both fruit species. It is slightly smaller than a peach. It does not require land with certain special features.
In the cultivation of nectarines, it is not necessary to carry out the thinning of the fruit, as they are naturally thinned in some varieties by falling off or germinating. However, if a larger fruit size is to be achieved, it is necessary to thin it early and leave one fruit every 15 cm in a mixed twig.
Recent data on new plantings in Italy suggest that nectarine is slowly suppressing peach. This is supported by the price of nectarine, which is almost double the price of peach.
It is extremely, like peach, rich in beta-carotene, but it should be noted that it is twice poorer in vitamin C, calcium and phosphorus.
In addition to being eaten fresh, it is processed into juices, stewed drinks and jelly, fruit salads, ice creams, dried and candied products, cocktails.
